About LOTE Teaching Guide Volume 3

LOTE Guide 3 is for use in either grades 5-6 OR 9-10, with a teaching model  based more strongly on theory and complex communication.

Higher expectations are placed on High school years vs primary.

Story telling is used as a tool to bring together the almost 2000 word vocabulary taught so far, with incorporated grammar and linguistic concepts to deliver complex communication within a guided and evolving series of major works over the two years.

This edition, unlike its predecessors, has no CDROM or USB for hand outs and activities. Instead we have digitised our LOTE supplement material, activity sheets etc and taken advantage of video and interactive possibilities.

Prerequisite: MUST have completed LOTE 2, some online catch-up provided.

Synopsis: Actively study the language linguistics concepts and grammar. Developing and practicing complex conversations and information retrieval and expression.

Topics covered in Year 1

Story telling and information exchange through the sub learning areas of Animals and people incorporating Colours, numbers, fingerspelling and descriptors

Greetings and discussing the day

Linguistic and Lexicological concepts of root (or radical) signs, Emphasis, extent, role shift, and mime.

History of Australia deaf school & growing up deaf in Australia.

Sign language evolution impact events (past & future) and compares Auslan to other sign languages and how they influences our language.

Topics Covered in Year 2

We continue to use storytelling as a path to detailed communication through the sub learning areas of people and animals.

Vocab expanded in areas:

  • Zoo animals
  • Countries
  • Climate and weather
  • Clothing

We look more deeply at linguistic concepts and complex communication.

We also look more at Deaf Australian Stories and overall deaf awareness.

Special Event Topics:

There is supplementary, optional topics online only on Birthdays, Easter and Christmas  that can be implemented at the appropriate times in the year.

Aims and Objectives of Stage 2

Broadly speaking, the aim/objective of the volume 3 is to take communication in Auslan to detailed and complex presentations and information exchange incorporating key linguistic concepts and principles.

We want to also expand knowledge from vocab to language and history of the language, its lexicology and parallels with overseas language evolution and dissimilarities and why this is the case.

This volume is not about learning a language, it is about understanding it and using it in a complex and practical way!

What's in the folder NOW and Next year!

IMPORTANT!

Right now you are buying year 1 of a two year program

The folder you receive has space for year two and when you purchase that (available late 2024) it will slot in and come with an updated index to include the new sections.

There is no CDROM! Handouts and activities are online only which is why this volume comes with 12 month access to SignPlanet as an organisational license holder.
